The authorities are tracking down two Indonesian men in Kuching, Sarawak, who disappeared after they tested positive for Covid-19 last Wednesday (23 December), reported Harian Metro.
According to a spokesman for the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat, the two men underwent a Covid-19 test after being offered a job in Asajaya district by an employer in Kuching. He said they were taken to the workers’ quarters in Asajaya on 20 December.
“They were then taken by the employer to undergo Covid-19 screening at a private health facility in Serian on 21 December and the test results on 23 December came out positive,” he said.
“However, the individuals, who did not have any symptoms of Covid-19, disappeared after undergoing screening and have yet to be found until now.”
He added that the State Health Department and the Sarawak State Security and Enforcement Unit are currently actively tracking down the two Indonesians who are among the three new Covid-19 cases detected in Sarawak on 27 December.
“Another case also involved an Indonesian man who tested positive after undergoing Covid-19 screening because he wanted to start work at a new place in Kuching,” he said.
“Preliminary investigation found that the man has a history of working legally in Sarawak since December 2019 at a food premise in Kuching and returned legally to his country of origin in July 2020, however he re-entered Sarawak using a rat lane on 25 December 2020.”
With the three new cases recorded yesterday (27 December), Sarawak has now recorded a total of 1,108 cases since the first case was detected in March 2020.
