It is our duty as responsible human beings to maintain the harmony of nature and any place. Sadly, despite being in the 21st century where everything is evolving, littering is still something that is not taken seriously.
Dataran Bagan Datuk is one of the tourist attractions in Perak and it has recently gone viral on social media, but unfortunately, it’s not for a good reason. Some irresponsible parties have left the place in a dirty condition by leaving trash behind like plastic cups, food containers, plastic bags and more.
According to a post by Viral Perak, while the rubbish will be cleaned by the contract workers from the city council, it reflects on the lack of manners from some of the visitors.
“The places are beautiful but not the people without manners who left the rubbish there, when trash cans are already provided.”
The caption also says that some of the visitors did not even manage to take selfies with the colourful Bagan Datuk landmark as the area is filled with rubbish.
Malaysians are definitely NOT happy to see the place being handled in such an uncivil manner. Most of them expressed their dissatisfaction in the comment sections, while some also share their own experience with other places, as well as what could be done to curb this issue.
“I went to Dataran Meru recently. Most of the people who left trash behind were family. The kids are exposed to these wrong examples. I wanted to say something but was worried it might turn into a fight.”
“Educate our kids to NOT litter. Find a trash can and throw the rubbish in.”
“There’s always one in a thousand who is lacking in civic manners. That’s why some people even throw over chairs and TV from the flats. This needs CCTV or enforcement. It’s either maximum fine or charity work as a form of punishment.”
“Place as many trash cans as you can. If you’re dirty since you were younger, you’ll still be one when you have a family.”
This may remind you of the phrase “this is why we can’t have nice things” and it is shameful to see some of us still littering without thinking about the possible consequences. If you’re among the people who litter, ask yourself, do you really want the younger generation to follow suit?
