When it comes to the latest Hollywood flicks, or generally any movies, movie enthusiasts tend to visit the theatres for the cinematic experience. However, some viewers prefer to catch the movie from the comfort of their own homes to save on budget, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Nowadays, one movie ticket costs us about RM20, and if you need snacks to munch on during the movie, a set of popcorn and beverage costs you around RM18. For a movie session, roughly RM38 is needed, excluding the parking ticket at the mall and the gas money to travel. But a Twitter user has recently revealed that watching movies at home actually costs more than going to the cinema.
Here’s the breakdown of his calculation.
- Netflix – RM55
- Unifi – RM105
- TV – RM1999
- Mattress – RM95
- Coffee – RM3
- Chocojar – RM12
The total damage to watching movies at home would be RM2,273, according to the man’s calculation. With that amount of money, imagine how many trips to the theatres could’ve happened.
“Do you throw your TV into the river every time after each movie?”
His tweet, which was reshared by the Facebook page Suka Filem gained the attention of many Malaysians who were baffled at his irrelevant calculations. Many were clueless about how the man came up with the calculations.
“Did you throw the TV after each use?”
“Do you subscribe to Netflix every day?”
“Stupid, that’s not the price for 1 movie, it’s multiple movies.”
“You might as well calculate the price of your house.”
In the meantime, a user wondered about the kind of TV the man has.
“Is that a B40 television? Are you really that poor?”
Other netizens continue to ridicule the man for the irrelevance in his calculations for a movie.
“Did you buy a new set of TV every day? Do you throw it into the river after each movie?”
“This is terribly stupid.”
A netizen took the opportunity to “play along” and calculate the cost to watch a movie from his mobile phone.
“Wasn’t the coffee too bitter for you to finish in one movie? Or did you overdose on the coffee when you tweeted this?”
Regardless, would you have preferred to watch a movie in the cinema or in the comfort of your own home? Do you think an immersive cinematic experience is important to enjoy a movie?
