It’s that time of the year again to celebrate our glorious tanah air. McDonald’s Malaysia is rolling out the red carpet to celebrate Malaysia’s 68th National Day, and it’s not just any mere celebration.
The Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang convoy is travelling across the country and making pit stops at various Mekdi outlets from now until 16 August, with McDonald’s goodies and family activities in tow!
Organised by the Ministry of Communications, the motorcycle convoy kicked off its nationwide tour at Muar, Johor, officiated by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, before making their first official pit stop at McDonald’s Kluang DT on 28 July. They subsequently stopped by McDonald’s Batu Berendam DT, Melaka, which we visited on 30 July!
Here’s what we found out:
1. Spreading the Jalur Gemilang spirit
The Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang convoy is organised to carry the spirit of our Jalur Gemilang across every state in the country, with McDonald’s Malaysia providing the convoy pit stops to refuel and recharge for their nationwide journey.
The festive convoy will travel to 88 locations throughout Malaysia, while making 15 official pit stops at selected McDonald’s outlets. The last McDonald’s pit stop will be at McDonald’s Pantai Sentral Park DT, Kuala Lumpur on 16 August.
“The selection of 15 of our restaurants as official pit stops for the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang convoy is proof of how deeply McDonald’s is connected with Malaysians. Whether they’re on the way back to their kampung, on holiday, or just dropping by for a quick stop, McDonald’s is always here for Malaysians, creating meaningful moments along their journey,” said Hajah Melati Abdul Hai, Senior Vice President and Chief Impact Officer, McDonald’s Malaysia.
2. You and your family can join the fun too
That’s not all! At every McDonald’s Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang pit stop, customers will be able to enjoy a host of Merdeka-themed goodies and activities, including:
- Get your own Jalur Gemilang flags for free!

- Collect limited-edition Merdeka Drive-Thru stickers

- Cool down with FREE McDonald’s Sundae Cone

- Merdeka edition Mekdi food vouchers

- Merdeka-themed restaurant décor

- Exclusive set meal promotions

Plus, there will be plenty of interactive family-friendly activities that everyone in the family would love, along with a special Ambang Merdeka (Merdeka Eve) celebration at McDonald’s Putrajaya Precinct 2 DT from 29 to 31 August.
To add on even more patriotic excitement, the first 100 visitors of each participating McDonald’s pit stop can redeem exclusive gifts for FREE. “What goodies will McDonald’s be giving away wor?” Only one way to find out!
3. The ultimate National Day celebration!
Finally, McDonald’s Malaysia will be ending their Merdeka celebration by joining the official National Day 2025 celebration at Dataran Putrajaya on Merdeka Day. They’ll be giving away 50,000 free food vouchers and 2,500 limited-edition Mekdi merch to anyone who shows up, so remember to block your calendar!
And in appreciation of their service in keeping our country safe 24/7, McDonald’s Malaysia will also be belanja-ing free meals to uniformed personnel throughout July and August through its 370+ restaurants nationwide.
“As a brand that has grown alongside Malaysians for the past 43 years, we believe that our National Day is an important moment to unite, celebrate diversity, and express our love for the country. That’s why McDonald’s Malaysia is joining this initiative to take on a larger role as a local company—transforming our restaurants into spaces where Malaysians can strengthen patriotism and unity as we celebrate independence,” Hajah Melati added.
