Just a few days back, JPJ had announced that they will be revoking the permit of driving institutions if too many reckless drivers who cause accidents come from the same institution.
However, Minister of Transport, Dato Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong confirmed that as of now, they have no plans to revoke the license and permit of any driving institutions as it is not the policy of Ministry of Transport.
In a statement which was released yesterday (3 February), Dr Wee assured that the recent statement on the matter was merely the personal opinion of the Director-General of JPJ. He added that any directions or suggestions for further improvement will be observed holistically and scientifically by the Ministry of Transport (MoT) prior to making any decisions.
A lot of aspects, such as the effectiveness, feasibility as well as ability to reach the objective will also have to be taken into account.
“MoT does not want to point any fingers to any parties and blame them just because of some assumption or baseless hypothesis.”
Additionally, Dr Wee said all relevant parties will be involved in the detailed studies in order to gain more perspectives and suggestions for further improvements.
Previously, Datuk Zailani Hashim, the head-director of JPJ had said that decision is a lesson to both the driver and the driving institutions that they should train the future drivers by following the right module. A code will be placed on licenses to trace back to the driving schools.
Now that the MoT has assured that they have no plans to do so, it is still unclear if they will ever implement this regulation at some point in the future.
Do you think an instructor or a driving institution should be held responsible for the accidents that their former students get into?
