It appears that Malaysians haven’t been behaving courteously, so much so that we’ve become somewhat known for being mean, rude and ill-mannered towards others, whether it be in person or online.
So, what would fix our downright nasty attitudes?
Veteran actor, Zulkifli Ismail, recently took to his Facebook page to call for people’s etiquette to be reimplemented into our country’s educational syllabus so that Malaysians can learn to become more respectful from a young age.
He wrote, “I suggest that the subject of TATARA’AYAT (people’s etiquette) be taught again in all schools across the country including national schools, (non-Malay-medium) national-type schools, religious schools, private schools and others, to produce citizens who are more polite and morally upright.”
In his post, he also showed off an old Form 1 Civics textbook.
Malaysians were quick to agree with the actor, especially considering that they believe many people these days truly need it!
“Even though it seems unimportant for education but it is very important for everyday life. I very much agree that it should be reincluded into the syllabus.”
“I agree and it should be a subject that is mandatory to pass.”
“I am among those who very much agree! It can help to improve the good manners that we’ve fostered among the different races that are disappearing more and more lately. Social media is one of the causes.”
“I support this. I very much agree that this subject is important in molding the attitudes of the current generation.”
Considering this subject, which was studied by students in the 1980s, exposed them to the way of life of various races in this country, should it be reimplemented into our current educational syllabus?
