In light of the move by Thailand legalizing marijuana for medical purposes, the Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) has released a statement that they will reject any move to legalize the substance.
As reported by FMT, the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun stated that legalizing marijuana in Malaysia would create a lot of problems as well as complicate the issues of drug abuse and drug trafficking.
He said,
“We are also worried about the possibility of marijuana smuggled into this country.”
Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi also elaborated that the Malaysian police will be working hard to reinforce the border controls in order to stop the smuggling of marijuana and any other form of drugs.
Previously in September 2018, the Malaysian Cabinet put the heavily criticised death sentence of Muhammad Lukman for distributing cannabis oil for medical purposes on hold.
There was also discussion on the possibility of Malaysia legalising marijuana, as The Star reports.
Medical marijuana could help a lot of patients out there suffering from a variety of health conditions. Could legalizing it in Malaysia be good or will it be a start to more serious drug problems? Share with us your thoughts in the comment section below.
