PDRM has made it clear that everyone must follow the dress code at police stations, following the recent case of a woman who was denied entry into Kajang police station over the length of her trousers.
Bentong MP, Young Syefura has since reminded PDRM not to be prejudiced towards women and said that the incident of the woman at the Kajang police station should not have happened. The Executive Committee (EXCO) for Terengganu state government, however, has something else to say about Young Syefura’s response.
In his tweet yesterday (February 6), Dr Azman Ibrahim said that expensive items are usually nicely packaged, and said that packaging is important to market a product.
“If an item is exposed, it’s fake goods sold at cheap price,” Dr Azman said.
“Sir, women are not items!”
His tweet, which seemingly equalises and likens women to “items” has received major backlash from many Malaysians. Some of them told Dr Azman that women are not materials, and some even suggested that he revokes his Dr title.
“Women are not an item.”
“How do you expect someone to go home to change during an emergency if her house is far? You’re stupid.”
“High academic qualification is usually presented through words and writing. If you’re writing like you’re brainless, that’s a fake academic qualification.”
“I thought a rempit tweeted this. I was so shocked to see this tweet from a YB. What’s the relation between your tweet and this issue? It’s such an embarrassment.”
“What do nicely wrapped packages have got to do with filing a police report? Even if we lose a second-hand item, we still file a report. An analogy that does not make sense at all.”
“Women are not an item, ‘Dr’.”
“How did he get the Dr title if he happily labels women as items? Women are not an abject sir, and we’ll never be.”
“A man who insults, condescends and looks down on women.”
“What kind of Dr is this?”
“Imagine this. Someone with a Dr in the title but with such a mindset.”
Just this afternoon (February 7), Dr Azman responded to all the criticisms by giving a few examples of animal proverbs and said that some things are not meant to be taken literally.
“Tidur tidur ayam means you don’t sleep well. It doesn’t mean you’re a chicken.”
Dr Azman also said that everyone has the right to dress however they desire at home, but certain rules in public places have to be followed.
1. Bagai anjing dengan bayang-bayang maknanya orang yang tamak. Bukan kata awak anjing.
2. Bagai anjing menyalak bukit maknanya kerja yang tak memberi kesan bukannya kata awak anjing. pic.twitter.com/cizwbflpB2

Fellow Malaysians, do you think Dr Azman went too far with his tweets? Is this the best possible way to prove a point?
