On the night of June 1, a police chase and shootout took place at the Tanjung Malim stop (kilometre 396.5 heading North).
The Selangor police released a statement on Facebook by their chief, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, detailing how the incident took place.
It is said that it started when the Crime Investigation Department of Bukit Aman and the Crime Investigation Department of Perak were tailing a suspicious Proton Waja.
“When they realised they were being followed, the suspect tried to run away and went into the North-South highway (heading North),” he said.
The police chief continued: “The police were able to chase the suspect to the Tanjung Malim stop (kilometre 396.5 heading North) and managed to stop the suspect.”
However, the Proton Waja driver then shot the officers, and the police shot at them after that until it was safe.
The officers then inched closer to the vehicle and found that the suspects, 2 local men, were bloodied in the car and had passed away.
Authorities are still trying to identify one of the men. As for the other man, the police found that he is a criminal with 23 past records and is still wanted for 6 of them.
This case will be investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 8 of the Arms Act 1960.
This certainly begs the question of how the criminal was able to get their hands on guns. We hope that the authorities will be able to get to the bottom of this.
