Malaysians have been rallying together for the past week or so to make sure their iconic education institution, SMK Convent Bukit Nanas does not get demolished before its lease expires.
Alumni and students of the school came together and even started a petition to make sure their beloved school stays intact. While the renewal of the school’s lease was hinted at by Federal Territories Minister, Tan Sri Annuar Musa in a not-so-subtle tweet, Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin confirmed it today (22 April) in an official statement.

In the statement, he said that after considering the school’s contribution to the nation’s education since 1899, they have agreed to extend the school’s lease for another 60 years. The permission was granted on the basis of educational purposes only.
“Hopefully by this decision, SMK Convent Bukit Nanas will continue to make history in producing quality students for the nation’s future.”
