Toll payment with RFID which will be introduced on the Juru route, Penang to Skudai, Johor on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) starting January 15 next year, is an additional option to the existing transaction platform.
As reported by Sinar, PLUS Managing Director, Datuk Azman Ismail said, users, can still use Touch ‘n Go cards and SmartTAG because only one RFID lane is provided at the toll plazas on the route. He clarified,
“We hear and understand the concerns voiced by some highway users about the closure of Touch ‘n Go and SmartTAG lanes. We would like to clarify that both will remain operational.”
He said the transaction using RFID is an initial step towards the implementation of toll payment without the presence of toll plazas through the Multi-Lane Free-Flow (MLFF) System.
PLUS in this regard, he said, encouraged highway users to switch to RFID by obtaining RFID tags online through the Touch ‘n Go eWallet application, Touch ‘n Go portal, appointed marketing agents or at all 39 RFID tag installation centres across the Peninsula.
To realize the MLFF as implemented in other countries, highway users must first switch to RFID in stages over some time to allow them to adapt to the new millennium toll payment method. So maybe we should switch to RFID to prepare ourselves for the future because there’s no harm in adapting.
