The past weekend’s traffic has been absolute hellish and we’re guessing that when it’s time to balik kampung, it will probably be worse.
So, in order to lessen the traffic congestion, PLUS Highway has issued a travel time advisory (TTA). They have also estimated that 2 million vehicles will be on the road during this festive season and very long weekend. Welp!
In their statement, PLUS’ Chief Operating Officer, Datuk Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi says,
“As this is the first time after 2 years of MCO, that we are allowed to travel back to our loved ones to celebrate Raya Aidilfitri, we anticipate a 25% increase in vehicles compared to the current daily 1.6 million vehicles on our highway. So, we strongly urge and advise highway customers to adhere to the TTA schedule.”
For those who are heading to Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Northern Perak and Johor, PLUS advises you to leave your house before 10am and those who are leaving to other states can start their journey after 1pm.
When heading back to the Klang Valley, everyone is advised to depart before 9am.
“Based on the simulation, people heading from the North to Klang Valley may experience an extended travel time of up to 10 hours, or twice as long as the average travel time if they enter the highway after 9:00 am.”
“Meanwhile, the travel time from the South to the Klang Valley could reach up to 7 hours or twice as long compared to usual average travel time if they enter the highway after 9:00 am.”
They added that regular traffic updates will be available on the PLUSTrafik Twitter account, PLUS application, the toll-free PLUSLine at 1800-88-0000, PUTRI Chatbot, on the electronic message signs (VMS) along the highway as well as traffic announcements via major radio stations.
Don’t forget to get your car serviced before going on the trip and be sure to drive safe!
