The number of cases on 12 January hit an all-time high with 3,309 cases right before the start of the implementation of MCO in a few states in the country.
In a tweet by the Health Director-General, the Ministry of Health has made a forecast model which predicts that if the Ro/Rt number (infectivity) of Covid-19 remains at 1.1, then we would have about 8,000 cases daily. If it changes to 1.2, then we would reach 8,000 cases as early as March.
Now that a few high-risk states are under MCO, the Health Director-General has urged the general public to stay at home.
“I plead to all Malaysians to stay at home. These two weeks are very important for us and the country.”
Dr. Noor Hisham also said that Malaysians should not hold or attend any social gatherings and other non-essential outdoor activities as we are in a battle against the third wave of Covid-19 infections.
In another post by the Ministry of Health, they mentioned that the bulk of the cases (about 70%) are local citizens. All Malaysians are asked to abide by the SOPs to help fight the third wave, as our healthcare system is already “pressured” and at a “breaking point”.
