Ever since fireworks and firecrackers were legalised in Malaysia, there have been many viral incidents of people misusing them causing public nuisance or worse, injuries and damages.

In fact, during the recent Deepavali festivities, there have been several of these instances, including a modified car in Selayang shooting fireworks from its boot and irresponsible residents setting off fireworks at Damansara flat’s courtyard.

Now, another fireworks-related incident has gone viral, this time involving 2 local men at a residential area in Petaling Jaya.

Not only did the 2 men cause a public nuisance by excessively playing with fireworks but they even threw the fireworks at the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) patrol vehicle when policemen arrived at the scene!

Videos of the suspects being arrested by the police have been circulating on social media, including in this X post by @nanmanjoi8715. In the video, residents can be heard cheering and clapping as one of the suspects was arrested and brought to the police patrol car.

In a statement by Petaling Jaya District Police Chief ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin bin Abd Hamid, his side received a report from the public at 4.35am on Monday (13 November) that a group of local men were playing fireworks at a Lembah Subang apartment complex in Kelana Jaya, Petaling Jaya.

PDRM then sent 2 mobile patrol vehicles assisted by Task Force officers from the Kelana Jaya Police Station to the location where a group of approximately 50 residents gathered in anger against the public nuisance caused by the excessive and continuous lighting up of fireworks.

Whilst there, the policemen and patrol vehicles were even thrown fireworks by the suspects.

The first suspect had 2 previous criminal records, one for criminal activities and the other for a drug-related offence. Meanwhile, the second suspect has 4 previous criminal records, 3 involving criminal activities and 1 for a drug-related offence.
