Now, we all know the Perodua Myvi as an affordable local vehicle, often times used by college students as their first car.
But who knew that in Singapore, the Myvi could be considered atas (in the case of Singapore, all cars could might as well be considered atas).
Singaporean DJ KC Champion took to his Facebook page to explain why the Perodua Myvi is considered a T20 car in Singapore, and yes, it has everything to do with their Certificate of Entitlement (COE).
He wrote, “The Malaysian gang and those from outside of Singapore, if you want to know how much we Singaporeans have to pay for a car, here’s an example of a Myvi in category A (CAT A) below 1600cc.”
Before we get into his explanation, he noted that his pricing for the Myvi is an estimate and that it is for a new vehicle, not a secondhand one.
“So, the amount payable to buy a Myvi in Singapore is $40,000 (RM132,306.55) and $96,501 (RM319,192.87) for the COE price for 10 years for a CAT A vehicle, which equals to $136,501 (RM451,499.42).”
“That’s the price for a Myvi in Singapore! And the car can only be used for 10 years. After that, you have to send it for scraps or if you want, you can pay more COE CAT A to add another 10 years of use. So, those who drive a Myvi in Singapore is considered T20, not normal normal one. This is just the price of a car, we haven’t even gone into the price of houses yet,” he added.
That’s literally the price of a small house in Malaysia!
With that being said, we, as Malaysians, are thankful that we don’t have to pay that much for a compact car in our own country.
Would you pay that much for a Perodua Myvi? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
