KK Mart is still facing the wrath of boycott movements following the Allah socks issue. Is it time we put an end to the boycott?
Perak Mufti, Datuk Seri Wan Zahidi Wan Teh recently told Malaysians that it’s high time we stop the boycott movement, especially after KK Mart had not only apologised for the blunder but also for explaining their sides of the story to JAKIM.
Speaking to the media today (May 3), Wan said that there was no proof to show that the convenience store was insulting Islam, so there was no need to go on with the boycott. Wan also shared a snippet of Islamic history for everyone to reflect upon, and to show that the boycott movement is against the principles of Islamic justice.
“In the past, only the non-Muslims in Quraisy were boycotting the Muslims. Prophet Muhammad, however, has never shown any boycott movements toward the enemies.”
He added that according to Islamic judicial methods, 1 of the important pillars of criminal behavior is the intention and desire to do it, also known as Alqasdul Jinaei (criminal intent).
“That element cannot be proven through direct evidence and it can only be proven by confession or through the qarainul ahwal method of proof (circumstantial evidence).”
Wan said that based on all explanations that have been given by KK Mart, the existence of this pillar of Alqasdul Jinaein cannot be proven.
When asked about the effect of his statement on the case being heard in court, the Mufti of Perak said that he spoke on Islamic judicial principles and he did not interfere in court affairs.
With detailed explanations by KK Mart and Vern’s over Allah logo, do you think Malaysians should cease the boycott movement?
