Taiwanese influencer and social media celebrity, Iris Hsieh, was found dead inside a hotel room in Kuala Lumpur, with Malaysian singer Namewee also in the room at the time of the incident.

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) also found nine blue pills on him, which have been confirmed to be ecstasy pills.

Namewee tested positive for drugs

Previously, it was reported that Namewee was in the hotel room with Iris to discuss work matters. He claimed that Iris then went to take a shower, but decided to check on her when it had been quiet for 30 minutes after Iris went into the bathroom.

Iris was found unresponsive in the bathtub, and Namewee tried to perform CPR on her, but to no avail.

In a statement today (3 November), Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, Datuk Fadil Marsus, confirmed that Namewee, whose real name is Wong Meng Chee, was arrested at the hotel on 22 October at 4:30 PM before conducting a urine test on him at the Dang Wangi Police Station.

He tested positive for four drugs, namely methamphetamine, amphetamine, ketamine, and tetrahydrocannabinol (cannabis).

He was charged in court on 24 October under Sections 39A(1) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of drugs and drug abuse, respectively. Namewee pleaded not guilty to all charges, and the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court has set the hearing for 8 December.

In a statement yesterday (2 November), following the media reports on Namewee’s arrest for possessing substances on him, the singer broke the silence, insisting that he had never taken or carried any drugs, but admitted that he had been drinking a lot.

“The truth shall prevail. Believe what you want to believe.”

Namewee also expressed his condolences to Iris in his post.

Iris’ friend reached out to Namewee to ask about her whereabouts, but was ignored

In her Instagram story last night, Iris’ friend, Vivian, revealed that she reached out to Namewee via Instagram on 27 October. She wanted to know about Iris, who was scheduled to return to Taiwan on 24 October, and no one could reach days after she was expected to be home.

Namewee, however, did not respond, based on the screenshot that Vivian shared.

“Namewee, has Iris spoken to you for the past few days? She was supposed to be back on the 24th. It’s the 27th now, and no one could reach her. I’m wondering if you have any updates on your side?”

Following the news of Iris’ death and Namewee’s arrest, Vivian expressed her anger in another Instagram story.

“You did not even respond! I knew you were hiding something! It’s embarrassing and disgusting to know that I once collaborated with you!”

“I’ve always thought you were a good person. I was wrong!” Iris remarked.

According to Vivian’s friend and manager, Chris, he said the hospital has ruled “heart attack” as the cause of death, but her family was baffled by it, as Iris had always been healthy. PDRM is still confirming the cause of her death.
