A man from Keningau, Sabah, who was seen in a viral video allegedly beating a dog to death with an iron rod, has been arrested by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and remanded on November 7 (Wednesday).

District Police Chief Supt Yampil Garai said they got word about the incident on November 5 (Tuesday) afternoon and found out it happened at a workshop in Kampung Patikang, Keningau.

“The iron rod was seized”

Daily Express reported that the 39-year-old suspect, a mechanic at the workshop, allegedly killed the dog to cook and eat it the same day and has been remanded for 3 days.

Meanwhile, the New Straits Times shared that during questioning, the suspect admitted to killing the dog and to being the person in the video. The investigation revealed that the video was taken by the suspect’s colleague on October 24.

A remand for the suspect was approved

The suspect was taken to the Keningau magistrate’s court yesterday, where the court approved a remand order until November 9 to help with the investigation.

Supt Yampil said they’re still looking for other witnesses to aid the investigation. He also urged the public to avoid making assumptions or spreading unverified information.

The case is being investigated under Section 428 of the Penal Code for mischief by killing an animal, punishable by up to three years’ jail, a fine, or both, upon conviction, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities.
