The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has arrested 5 private university students for allegedly targeting gay individuals to rob them.
The students would allegedly message and arrange meetings with their targets via social media and a gay dating application before tying them up during the meeting and robbing them by transferring money from the victim’s bank account.

According to a report by Kosmo, Serdang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner A A Anbalagan shared that this issue came to light when his department received a report from a 41-year-old man who had met one of the suspects through a gay dating application and subsequently became a victim of the group.
“The victim, who works as a hairdresser, agreed to meet with the suspect at the suspect’s rented house in the Bandar Putra Permai area, Seri Kembangan, on March 16 (Sunday). While at the house, the victim found 2 unknown men there when coming out after using the toilet,” he said.
His hands and feet were then tied up and one of the suspects allegedly beat the victim with a stick.

“Another suspect took the victim’s mobile phone and transferred RM67,000 into the account of a friend of the suspect. The suspect also threatened the victim not to report to the police before cutting the rope that was tied to the victim’s feet and hands,” he added.
Acting on the information provided, the police arrested 5 men aged 18 to 22, including the owner of the account who received the victim’s money.
There was more than one victim
Their investigations also detected 3 other incidents involving different victims under the same modus operandi.
These victims are asked to come forward to make police reports at police stations nearest to them or to the investigating officer, Inspector Nursabrina Ahmad Jafri, who can be contacted at 03-80742222.
This case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code, Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960 and Section 292 of the Penal Code for the offence of storing obscene photos and videos.
