Parliamentary sessions and Dewan Rakyat sessions are the time and place for politicians to bring up important issues that concern the well-being and safety of the people and country.
But, would you consider women getting married late as an issue?
Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh took to her Twitter page to call out Kubang Kerian MP Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man for bringing up a solution for an issue he deems worthy of time during the Budget 2024 committee stage debate at Dewan Rakyat, which is women getting married late. His solution? Polygamy.
Hannah Yeoh wrote, “A debate of allocations for the Ministry of Women, Children and Community Development. PAS Member of Parliament suggests polygamy to solve the problem of women getting married late. Yang Berhormat, my opinion is that late marriage is not a problem that needs to be solved.”
“What’s the use of marriage but you get neglected? A match should come without the constraint of time.”
During the Budget 2024 committee stage debate session, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man questioned why polygamy is treated as a sensitive issue when it could be given moral support as a solution for the problem of unmarried women aged 30 and above.
“Speaking of polygamy is like someone committing a crime. I feel like the Ministry should think rationally with this issue, where for those who are capable, have the eligibility and can act fairly, moral support should be given to them,”
“We can imagine, 8.4 million women who are still not married, and while it (polygamy) is not the final solution, I think this is a way out on how to solve the problem of unmarried women,” he said.

Perbahasan peruntukan @KPWKM. Ahli Parlimen PAS cadang poligami untuk selesai masalah wanita lambat kahwin??. Yang Berhormat, pendapat saya lambat kahwin bukan satu masalah yang perlu diselesaikan. Apa guna kahwin tapi diabaikan? Jodoh datang tak mengenal masa. pic.twitter.com/sNPuG5y04A
