Yes, Japanese people are the masters of life hacks. For that reason, they were able to expand Daiso worldwide. This is totally overdoing it though. LOL
To counter his baby boy’s clingy problem, a Japanese man decided to create a cardboard cutout of his wife and left it around the house to see if that could stop the baby from crying when she wasn’t around.
“It’s really hard for mummy. You see whenever mummy is out of sight, my 1-year-old will cry immediately. So I experimented with a life-sized cardboard cutouts of her to see what would happen.”
うちの1歳児、お母さんが視界から消えるとすぐ泣いちゃうので、大変。
その対策として「等身大パネルの母」を設置するとどうなるか実験してみた。

The idea worked! Surprisingly. But not for long.
Mr. Sato shared that they had the cutouts professionally printed at a printing company and produced 2 ‘models’ of her in total.
Here we have Mrs. Sato patiently sitting and watching her son play.
And here’s another one of her standing and watching over the kid.
Successful for 20 minutes
While the baby was distracted, Mrs. Sato swapped herself with the cutout in the kitchen and snuck into a different room.
Mr. Sato said that the ‘experiment’ was a success. The baby happily smiled while playing with his toys.
Apparently, it was too soon to celebrate. After 20 minutes, the clever baby figured out what was going on and cried at the sight of his motionless mother. Eeps!

“When he realized it… What a reaction!”
What a riot! We guess this method doesn’t work after all. It was fun while it lasted.
