With Asean Para Games just around the corner, our national athletes are in the final stage of training to strive for the gold medals. Unfortunately, they were recently involved in a hit-and-run accident. 🙁

At 10.45am this morning, four para-cycling athletes who were cycling along the KL-Kuala Selangor Expressway (LATAR) were suddenly hit from behind and all four men were injured as a result, according to NST.

At the time of the incident, they were training for the upcoming Asean Para Games when a black Toyota Hilux pick-up truck rammed into them. Instead of checking on them, the driver allegedly drove off and fled the scene, leaving all four athletes lying on ground.

The injured athletes are:

  1. Nor Rizuan Zainal, 31 – suspected spinal injuries
  2. Khairul Azwan Wahab, 25 – multiple fractures
  3. Khairul Nizam Mohd Ali, 23, and
  4. Nur Syafiq, 19 – both rushed to Sungai Buloh Hospital

Khairul Nizam and Khairul Azwan are blind.

The brutal impact from the truck had left all four cyclists with broken limbs. The coach of the team, Johari Nayan who was also injured said that the irresponsible driver heartlessly left the cyclists on the ground and sped off.

“I was not exactly aware of what happened when we were cycling down. The next thing I knew, I was already lying on the road, with injuries on my body and legs.”

“I saw a black Hilux but the driver left us there as we waited for help to come,” he said.

Coach Johari was unable to comment further as he too, was being ferried to the hospital by an ambulance. This case is now being investigated by the police.

This shocking news has garnered nationwide attention and needless to say, Malaysians were enraged and condemned the truck driver for not owning up to his mistake.

“The driver should be put behind bars and have his license revoked for fleeing the scene!” an angry netizen said.

“There’s CCTVs at the plaza toll. The driver must pay for what’s done!” another netizen commented.

The team at WORLD OF BUZZ wishes the athletes and coach a speedy recovery. Hopefully the police will be able to nab the reckless driver as well!
