In a major step forward for youth education and environmental responsibility, Panasonic Malaysia has reached a historic milestone with its flagship “Energy For Green Future – School Recycling Campaign 2.0”. The campaign has been officially recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records for achieving the “Most Batteries Recycled in a Single Event”, with over 100,000 used batteries collected and responsibly recycled.

This achievement involved over 30,000 students across 20 primary schools in Klang Valley, highlighting the power of education to drive real-world environmental impact.

Grand Finale

The initiative reflects Panasonic’s corporate vision “Create Today. Enrich Tomorrow.”, which is rooted in long-standing commitment to holistic wellbeing for people, society, and the planet, inspired by Japan. This guiding principle continues to shape all Panasonic’s efforts across the region.

The grand finale, hosted at SJK (C) Yuk Chai, Petaling Jaya was attended by En. Yusaini Bin Salleh, Deputy Director, Student Development Sector of Selangor State Education Department (JPN Selangor); Mr. Keisuke Nishida, Managing Director of Panasonic Malaysia; Mr. Visut Thobpak, Director of Dry Battery Manufacturing Division, Panasonic Energy Thailand; Ms. Lau Swee San, Country Head of Panasonic Energy Malaysia; Dato Nigel Ng, Director of Jaring Metal Industries Sdn Bhd; and Mr. Robin Tan Tien Chye, Headmaster of SJK (C) Yuk Chai.

Keisuke Nishida

Mr. Keisuke Nishida, Managing Director of Panasonic Malaysia, shared that at the heart of this initiative lies a pressing environmental challenge — the improper disposal of household batteries, which contain harmful chemicals that can contaminate soil and water if not handled correctly. By addressing this issue through education and action, Panasonic aims to build lasting awareness around responsible e-waste management and foster sustainable habits early in life.

“This campaign is more than just a recycling drive – it’s about empowering the next generation of environmental stewards. We are proud to deliver a meaningful program that combines education, action, and impact. The record we’ve set is a milestone, but the real achievement is instilling lifelong eco-conscious values in Malaysian students,” said Nishida.

Throughout the campaign, students took part in a series of engaging and educational activities designed to make environmental learning both fun and impactful. Highlights included the Battery Exchange Program, where students exchanged used batteries for new ones — reinforcing the importance of safe disposal practices. They also attended interactive workshops focused on battery safety, pollution prevention, and the real-life consequences of improper waste management. Adding to the excitement were lively appearances by Panasonic Energy’s beloved mascot Leo, who brought the campaign’s “Energy For Green Future” message to life in a way that truly resonated with young learners.

This flagship “Energy For Green Future – School Recycling Campaign 2.0” is a key initiative that aligns with Panasonic’s Green Impact global framework, which has a long-term goal to reduce CO₂ emissions and foster sustainable lifestyles.

As part of this, Panasonic Energy, the division responsible for battery production, aims to position itself as synonymous with environmental contribution. By raising awareness and educating consumers, especially the younger generation, on proper battery disposal and recycling, Panasonic Energy hopes to foster long-lasting behavioural change.

The initiative also exemplifies a key pillar in the Panasonic Green Impact framework that focuses on raising environmental awareness and driving positive change across society. It further reinforces Panasonic’s broader mission to accelerate the transition toward a carbon-neutral society through external engagement and cultivating a sustainability culture from within the organisation.

“Panasonic remains committed to working hand-in-hand with eco-conscious organisations, educational institutions, the public sector and our own people to drive sustainable innovation and foster a culture of environmental responsibility both in Malaysia and across the region,” concluded Nishida.
