After months of tireless dedication, our nation’s medical frontliners who have worked day and night in the Covid-19 battlefield will finally be given some time off to prevent them from burning out.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this in his press conference yesterday (5 May) at the Ministry of Health’s headquarters.

However, he added that we still need to be “prepared for the worst”.

Now, as daily cases have been dropping over the past few weeks, health frontliners will finally be able to take a rest after almost five months of dealing with Covid-19 patients since late January.

“Health frontliners and staff at the ministry of health have worked non-stop day and night for five months now, even on the weekends or workdays,” Dr Noor Hisham said.

“All the sacrifices made… now the cases have reduced. Now we see the use of ICU or Covid-19 wards reduced so maybe we can use this one week or two to give them some time off in turns.”

“And we can also give them counselling so that they can steel themselves should there be spikes in cases. We have to be prepared for the worst, but hope for the best.”

Yesterday (5 May), 30 new cases were recorded, which is the lowest number ever since the movement control order (MCO) was imposed. The total number of cases now stands at 6,383 with 1,816 active cases.

This means that about 72% of patients have recovered! Meanwhile, the death toll to date stands at 106.

Our frontliners definitely deserve this much-needed break! They have worked so hard for the country and we cannot thank them enough for their sacrifice.
