Recently, it was revealed that an elderly vegetable vendor was fined for selling her homegrown produce without a license at a market in Kampung Abdullah, Johor.
Upon hearing about this, Segamat MCA Youth Chief and Segamat Municipal Council (MPS) Councillor, Tay Kok Wea, coordinated with his fellow MPS Councillor, Eric Teo Kim San, to assist the woman on top of paying the fine on her behalf.

MPS Councillor helps pay fine for elderly woman caught selling vegetables without a license
Taking to his Facebook page, he wrote,
“This wasn’t for show. I couldn’t bear to see an elderly woman, who earns her living with her own hands, forced into despair by a mere fine.
“I’d like to report that I have coordinated with the city council’s enforcement unit and confirmed that no further fines will be issued to the woman; she can continue selling vegetables with peace of mind.”
He further explained that the woman only sells the vegetables four times a month and that he will advocate for a symbolic fee. If approved, he will also cover the related costs for the woman.
“The progress of a city depends not only on systems, but also on the warmth of human kindness.”
The license has been obtained!

In another post, Tay updated followers that he has obtained a license for the woman so that she can continue to sell her vegetables while he advocates for a symbolic fee for her.
“I have already covered the license-related fees. Next, I will bring this matter to the meeting and negotiate for a symbolic fee. If it passes, I hope it will alleviate her burden for the foreseeable future,” he added.
