In North Korea, only its leader, Kim Jong Un, has access to the Internet. Most of the people in the country remain digitally disconnected, according to a report by the Daily NK.
The North Korean soldiers, who are in Ukraine on behalf of Russia, got internet access for the first time, and guess what they’re hooked on?
Not anime, not movies. According to the Hindustan Times and NDTV World, the North Korean soldiers had their eyes and attention on pornographic materials on the internet once they had access. Most North Koreans have been sheltered from using the Internet their whole life.
Financial Times foreign affairs commentator Gideon Rachman wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter) and said he got a reliable source about the matter.
“A usually reliable source tells me that the North Korean soldiers who were deployed to Russia have never had unfettered access to the internet before. As a result, they are gorging on pornography.”
Gideon, however, did not explain further with additional context about how his source was well aware of the surfing habits of the North Korean soldiers who were deployed by the Russians.
US Defense Department spokesperson Army Lt Col Charlie Dietz, on the other hand, could not confirm any “North Korean internet habits or virtual extracurriculars”.
“As for the internet access, that’s a question best directed at Moscow,” Charlie said.
As Moscow-North Korea ties get stronger, Russia deployed more than 7,000 North Korean soldiers, armed with AK-12 rifles, among other assault weapons, to the Ukraine border.
The North Korean troops underwent training at 5 sites in Russia for possible long-term support for Russia’s military in Ukraine.
Well, if you had internet access for the first time, what would be your 1st search?
