Last Saturday, 13 March, nine women, including 25 of their children, who are members of the Palauh community were detained for not complying with the standard operating procedure (SOP) while they were begging.
According to a report made by Sabah Post yesterday, 14 March, these women could be fined up to RM10,000. The women were aged between 17 until 41 and were detained for not wearing face masks and not practising social distancing.
However, Lahad Datu District Police Chief, Rohan Shah Ahmad said that no compound has been issued by his party to the female beggars of the Palauh community until now.
As reported by Borneo Today, he said the investigation paper for the case was opened in accordance with Section 269 of the Penal Code; Regulation 17 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures in local areas of infection) (Recovery Movement Control) (No.3) 2021 as well as the Immigration Act 1959/63.
He added saying, under Rule 17 of the PPB, those found guilty can be fined RM10,000 or jailed for six months, or both.
“Once the investigation is completed, the Criminal Investigation Division of IPD Lahad Datu will refer the investigation paper to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further instructions,” he said.
