Housing and Local Government (KPKT) Minister Nga Kor Ming is facing backlash for his social media post on Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) suggestion that the government postpone the implementation of the policy allowing children as young as six years old to enter Standard One.
The post sparked the ire of Malaysians as he included a snippet of an article from 2018 that highlighted a belief that underage marriages are a necessity in Kelantan.

In the post on his X account, Nga stated, “PN was very loud and boisterous when the government proposed that those aged 6 be allowed to enter school. For your information, 130 countries have had such policies for a long time.”
“It is proven that PN is weak on education. However, when it comes to marriage, PN doesn’t even care if it involves minors. It’s strange. Think about it.”
“Citing eight-year-old news”
Malaysians were not amused by his statement equating education for 6-year-olds with marriages involving teenagers in Kelantan. Moreover, many netizens urged the minister to do better.

“You are an instigator, taking a newspaper clipping and spreading it. Let me help you understand the headline of the newspaper. You do not know the difference between a child aged six and 16 to 18-year-olds because your heart is rotten.”
Do you think the KPKT Minister should have used the snippet of the article from 2018 to make his point? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
