The quick action of a young lady in Singapore earned plaudits from netizens after she rescued a gecko stuck on a wire mesh netting covering a pipe at the Kranji War Memorial in northern Singapore.
Shared on the Singapore Wildlife Sightings Facebook page by her father, Sunnie Chow, the girl spotted the small reptile while passing by the pipe covering.
At first, she thought it was a small frog but upon closer inspection, the animal turned out to be a gecko which somehow got stuck between holes in the wire mesh netting.
Chow shared,
“I was very proud of my daughter yesterday who shared with me how she helped save a small wildlife from what was a certain, painful slow death.”
“While at the Kranji War Memorial, she spotted what first looked like a small frog sitting on a wire mesh covering a pipe, but on closer inspection, was a gecko or lizard, trapped in a hole, impaled upon the many metal wire spikes in the mesh.”
“She carefully removed it from the metal mesh and placed it in the nearby bushes. Hopefully, it will recover fully.”
The post also included a couple of photos and a 2-minute-11-second video of the gecko being rescued.
In the video, the girl can be seen using a small tool to cut the wire mesh netting surrounding the gecko. When the net was loose, she carefully removed the reptile and took a closer look at it.

One commenter said that he was impressed that the girl carried around the tool with her and that she’d fit right in at scouting activities.
