Malaysia is well-known globally for our racial and religious diversity, all living in harmony and embracing each other’s differences through the Muhibbah spirit.
Nothing exemplifies this more than the various major celebrations taking place in our country throughout the year, all being celebrated together as a nation, regardless of race and religion.
Sometimes, our diverse cultures overlap during these celebrations in such unique ways, as can be seen by this lion dance troupe performing a unique show during Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Lion dance on Hari Raya!
Going viral online, a video of a dance troupe performing at a home in Tambunan, Sabah during Aidilfitri has caught the attention of Malaysians.
The video was shared by the dance troupe itself, Tarian Singa Tambunan, on TikTok, garnering over 116,000 views and more than 2,400 likes as of the time of writing.
In the video, the troupe can be seen performing in the backyard of a house in the Sabah interior while being watched by several excited audiences around the field.
Moreover, at least 6 ‘lions’ can be seen dancing along to the rhythms of the Chinese drums.
Interestingly, the ‘lions’ all sport unusual colours of green, blue and white, presumably for Hari Raya, rather than the traditional red and gold seen during Chinese New Year.

This is the Malaysia we know and love
In the comments section, many Malaysians were awed by this cultural crossover and asserted that such a sight can only be experienced in our country.
One commenter proudly expressed that this is the 1 Malaysia spirit that our country is famous for.
Meanwhile, another commenter said that the sight reminded her of the ‘Gong Xi Raya’ celebration we used to have a few years back when Hari Raya and Chinese New Year fell in close proximity to each other.
Besides that, one commenter asserted that regardless of race and religion, we are all happy during Hari Raya.
