Celebrity entrepreneur Neelofa and her husband, PU Riz are under investigation once again after they were suspected to be having their honeymoon in Langkawi when photos showed them at the airport and on the plane, believed to be heading to the resort island.
Dang Wangi District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said if they are found to be on a honeymoon at the island as reported, they are clearly violating the standard operating procedures (SOP) of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).
He added that the targeted domestic travel bubble announced by the government allows tourists across the state who are subject to the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) only, reported Berita Harian.
Chatime Malaysia has since released a statement, confirming that the newly weds are in Langkawi for work purposes, not for a honeymoon.
Group Managing Director, Aliza Ali, said Neelofa and her husband were on a working visit to three locations in the northern zone, namely Sungai Petani and Langkawi, Kedah and Kangar, Perlis for the purpose of opening new Chatime branches.
“The visit also involved some staff and the operations division as well as the management of Chatime Malaysia,” he said in a statement.
“Permission to travel interstate to Langkawi has been obtained from the nearest police station in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOP) that has been set.”
“Hopefully, this statement can shed light on all difficulties.”
As of now, Chatime’s statement has been deleted from Facebook, allegedly after being heavily criticised by netizens. The statement, however, can still be found on their Instagram page at the time of writing.
Netizens are also questioning Chatime’s actions on their latest Facebook post, with many saying they want to boycott the company as some believe Neelofa is using her ‘work visit’ as a cover for her honeymoon in Langkawi.
Meanwhile, the police also confirmed giving permission to Neelofa and three other individuals to travel to Langkawi for work purposes.
Brickfields District Deputy Chief of Police, Superintendent Basri Sagoni, said according to the application, they were allowed to travel to the destination location from 27 March to 4 April.
