With the next General Election (GE15) looming around the corner, there are certainly a few questions that are currently left unanswered. One of the biggest questions is whether or not former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will be contesting in light of the criminal convictions against him.
However, it seems that his replacement has been found in case he were to be disallowed from contesting in GE15.
According to a report by Utusan, Datuk Mohd Nizar Najib, the eldest son of Najib, is likely to contest in the Pekan state seat in GE15.
Utusan reported that Mohd Nizar will likely contest in the Pekan parliamentary constituency to continue the legacy of the late Tun Abdul Razak there.
However, it has yet to be decided which of the state seats the Pekan UMNO Youth chief will contest.
“The son of Najib Razak and first wife, Tengku Puteri Zainah Tengku Eskandar, is the most likely candidate to continue the legacy of the late Tun Abdul Razak.”
Under Pekan, there are 4 state seats which are Pulau Manis, Peramu Jaya, Bebar and Chini, which were all won by Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 2018 general election.
According to the report, Mohd Nizar is seen to be fit enough to replace his father if Najib is not eligible to contest in the coming GE15.
During the Chini by-election on July 4, 2020, Mohd Nizar was one of the names cut out before Mohd Sharim Md Zain was chosen by BN to contest there.
