Recently, motorists in the Klang Valley expressed their concerns over the unused Batu Tiga toll plaza. Since toll collections ceased earlier on 1st January this year, the toll plaza has been the site of two fatal accidents over the course of two months.
Netizens have been calling for demolition works on the toll plaza to speed up in efforts to avoid such fatal accidents from taking place.
Now, pictures of the Batu Tiga toll being dismantled have begun to circulate, much to the relief of Malaysian netizens.
According to Berita Harian, demolition works began earlier this week on the 20th of February, and a part of its physical structure has already been taken down.
Currently, work is being carried out on the left side of the Federal Highway heading from Kuala Lumpur to Shah Alam, but it is not disrupting traffic much.
According to the Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, demolition works on the Batu Tiga toll plaza will reportedly be finished by 28th March.
“Right now, PLUS is in the process of transferring their assets from the premises and once that is done, the toll structures will be demolished,” the minister was quoted as saying at a press conference on the 19th of February.
“We have also been informed that there will be a programme in place to ensure the flow of traffic will remain smooth until the demolition is completed.”
“I advise motorists to drive safely, because at the end of the day, what ensures our safety on the road is our own actions too. We should drive responsibly and take extra care to avoid any possible accident from occurring.”
So, be careful out there on the road everyone, especially while demolition works are being carried out now!
