If you frequent shopping malls, especially during festive seasons, there is a high chance that you won’t miss the terrific decorations put up there.
The extravagance and scale of the decorations vary from mall to mall depending on how fancy it is but in general, some effort is expected of all malls to get into the spirit of each festivity.
For example, some Malaysians on Twitter recently pointed out how splendid the Deepavali decor at Suria KLCC is.
Not only was there a kolam, there were also 2 huge peacock replicas, one of whose tail was made with an arrangement of purple, pink and white flowers, trailed across the floor.
Netizens praised the shopping mall for going beyond the bare minimum of Deepavali mall decorations- which is usually just a kolam.
In the same vein, they also called out other shopping malls for not putting in enough effort into their decorations for what is supposed to be one of the biggest festivities for Malaysia’s third largest racial group.
“This peacock was really gorgeous. Some other malls barely made any effort – shame on them.”
They shared that some malls even entirely skipped putting up Deepavali decor in favour of Halloween ones.
“There’s a mall in Johor. The Halloween decor even had an arched gate,” said a user.
Nonetheless, netizens were not too harsh on the malls who put in less effort for their Deepavali decor as cost is a big factor in being able to execute beautiful displays such as the ones in Suria KLCC.
One user said, “Hard to say. Some malls are losing money.”
“Can we all just appreciate this? There’s probably a reason lah. Maybe the cost or the management’s capabilities.”
Which other mall’s Deepavali decor do you think deserves a shout-out?
