In the spirit of being Malaysian, we love seeing all the different races of people participating and celebration different festivities and ceremonies together.

But there will always be those who will not be happy despite the need for unity in our country.

The Semangat Mat Kilau Twitter page recently shared an image of several local politicians during a non-Muslim ceremony to honour the deceased and voiced their dissatisfaction over the fact that Education Minister, Fadhlina Sidek, had participated.

Ceremony 1

They wrote, “Hoi Fadhlina Sidek, what are you holding there?”

The image turned out to be from December 2022, during the ceremony to honour those who had lost their lives during the Batang Kali landslide disaster.

Many have since taken to Semangat Mat Kilau’s post to defend Fadhlina Sidek for participating in honouring the deceased.

Ceremony 2

“This is visiting (or honouring) the deceased. This is a form of respect by having good thoughts of the deceased before gifting them flowers. If they are praying, they would use incense sticks. That’s what you get, for not having any non-Muslim friends, that’s why you’ve become annoying.”

Ceremony 3

“Gifting flowers can also become an issue? It’s different if YB was holding an incense stick. You must be from the gang that has never been gifted flowers.”

Ceremony 5

“Paying respects, not praying, you dumb*ss.”

Ceremony 4

What do you think? Is it wrong for the Education Minister to participate in paying respects and honouring those who lost their lives in non-Muslim ceremonies?

Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
