It’s today guys. The day has finally come.
While many are getting ready to head out for polling day (heck, you’re probably even reading this while waiting in line!), some others have actually already cast their votes. However, in just less than 3 hours, there are already reports about drama brewing. Dah agak kan?!
There has been claims that in certain polling stations, the ballot paper given to voters are issued without a stamp. If you didn’t know, ALL ballot papers must:
- Have a serial number
- Be officially stamped
- Not been tampered with (no markings nor damage)
Here’s an example of how it should look like:
Here’s the breakdown on what’ll happen when you go cast your votes:
When you enter the room, there’ll be 3 clerks.
First clerk:
- Hand him/her your IC while he/she validates your name
- He/she will then check your left hand for any ink/evidence that you’ve voted before
Second clerk:
- He/she will guide your hand and dip your left index finger into the indelible ink
Third clerk:
- He/she will tear the ballot paper from the book it’s attached to
- He/she will mark the ballot with a stamp before handing it over to you
Apparently, the claims called out SPR for not following proper procedure as some received ballots with NO stamp on it. If a ballot paper has no stamp, the vote will be considered ‘undi rosak’. So make sure you, your family members, friends, grandma grandpa, and everyone else you know check!
If you do find something wrong with your ballot…
Request to have it CHANGED! Exercise your right and get a new proper one.
Regardless if it was simply an honest mistake by the SPR officer, perhaps something dirtier, or maybe it didn’t even happen at all, we must do our part to make sure our votes are valid.
Because… Every vote counts. Right?
