M’sians Bash Roadblock at Sg Besi Toll That Closed ALL Lanes Except 1, Causing Massive Traffic Jam

A roadblock conducted by the authorities right after the Sungai Besi toll plaza heading south caused the ire of Malaysians recently after a photograph of the roadblock went viral on social media.

In the photo, which was taken from a high vantage point, a massive traffic jam can be seen building up even before the toll plaza as the authorities closed all lanes on the road except 1 in conducting the roadblock.

Shared by @update11111 on X (formerly Twitter), the post has since been viewed over 629,000 times and garnered more than 8,500 likes.

In the caption, @update11111 said that the photograph was taken on Monday (29 July) and asserted,

“Sungai Besi toll south-bound last night. They can open 4 lanes but they choose to open just 1. They’ll repeat this forever.”

Malaysians criticise the authorities for such inefficient roadblock practices

In the comments section, Malaysians unanimously bashed the authorities for the inefficient roadblock practice which causes inconvenience to road users.

One commenter asked whether any police officers can explain why they always block off all lanes except for 1 during roadblocks as he has seen this practice since he was young and even now, he’s already 35 years old.

Meanwhile, several commenters sarcastically compared the roadblock practice to counters at government offices, as despite there being many lanes, only 1 is open.

Besides that, one Malaysian asked why is it so hard for the authorities to open more than 1 lane during roadblocks and whether the authorities are short-staffed or can’t control their own personnel during roadblocks.

Either way, the commenter questioned whether the authorities should conduct roadblocks at all if they’re not capable of doing so.
