Times are tough, and more Malaysians are being forced into both emotional collapse and financial turbulence.
However, one of the upsides of this pandemic is perhaps how our faith in humanity is restored by seeing a few like-minded people emerge and do their best to help the needy. A team known as ProjectLangit is one of those groups of people who have their goals set on pulling the underprivileged from poverty, especially the B40 entrepreneurs and stay-at-home mothers.
Helping single mothers by digitalising their small businesses
Suri is a subsidiary of ProjectLangit, and every pastry product under this subsidiary is made by committed stay-at-home mothers who are willing to work diligently to provide for their children. The products can be viewed by simply browsing through their website and all the purchases can be made on the spot.
Under this initiative, ProjectLangit managed to secure two NGO partners – Rotary Club Petaling Jaya and Women Of Will which have linked them to single and stay-at-home mothers who saw their income slashed by half and many even lost their jobs due to the prolonged lockdowns. So far, they have managed to impact the lives of five B40 entrepreneurs and stay-at-home mothers who sell baked products.
The masterminds behind ProjectLangit
ProjectLangit consists of five young, brilliant and innovative university youth leaders who believe that they should take the advantage of living in the digital era to empower B40 entrepreneurs via digital marketing.
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Chief Communications Officer, Isabelle Choo revealed that the five of them met through the Youth Leadership Academy Programme organised by McKinsey and Co. The programme required each team of five to form a social enterprise to generate the most social impact on society. The winner for YLA 2021 is none other than ProjectLangit themselves!
This social enterprise launched back in July 2021 during the middle of the Movement Control Order (MCO 3.0). The uptrend of people moving into the B40 category prompted them to do their best in uprooting poverty issues, and hence, ProjectLangit came to birth.
As for the name of their organisation, Isabelle mentioned that their mission is to empower aspiring B40 entrepreneurs and small family businesses to uplift themselves from poverty and to reach for the skies. Symbolically, ‘langit’ is their vision to allow B40 entrepreneurs to reach the skies of freedom where they can be financially independent and freed from the shackles of poverty.
Current achievements & future plans
Within just three months, ProjectLangit has managed to gain wide outreach and high social media engagement, including:
- More than 70,000 organic impressions
- Approximately 22,000 users reach
- More than 5,000 content interactions
At the time of writing, they have already managed to get 11 volunteers onboard.
Despite their outstanding achievements, ProjectLangit team believes that they can help the underprivileged soar higher. They aim to reach more target groups in the Malaysian B40 community, embodying their mission to be nation builders and leaving no man nor woman behind. They plan to achieve this by onboarding more abled students, partners, and entrepreneurs.
Do follow them on their Instagram and Facebook page for more updates on what they are doing to help our community. The products and stories of B40 entrepreneurs can also be seen on their social media.
We’re certainly very proud to see how our local youths are passionately helping those in need.
