For the longest of time, having disabilities makes it hard for people to find jobs and make an honest livelihood for themselves and their families.

Hence is why siblings, Agnes and Mario Peter started RC Deaf Missions Malaysia, an organisation aimed to support the deaf community by creating job opportunities.

Selling affordable food to survive

The RCDM Cafe is a bakery-like eatery that is managed by a team of deaf Malaysians.

The small cafe is super easy to get to as it’s only right across from the Kelana Jaya LRT station! AND they’re available online!

They have:

  • Food such as curry laksa, pasta, sandwiches and more
  • Fathers’ day special here
  • A selection of snacks and pastries such as buns and cakes
  • Beverages such as coffee
  • Merchandise such as handmade masks, cushion covers, tote bags, and more

The best part, they have vegan options for their food and are pork-free.

Why we should help them

Rc 3

The business is a social enterprise that supports 9 deaf employees. RCDM created an opportunity for them to make a living for themselves.

However, they need RM20,000 a month for salary, rent, and utilities to survive.

Unfortunately, many a time, the business does not generate that amount and so Agnes, the founder, uses her savings and income to cover it – just so the employees can continue to have jobs.

RCDM shares with WORLD OF BUZZ that especially since MCO, they have been struggling to sustain themselves.

“We’re struggling and we’re also afraid of this new variant that’s going around. But we have no choice because if we don’t work, there’s no income.”

Here’s how you can support them

The employees want an earnest living and do not ask for donations.

So please support them by purchasing their food and merchandise here on EasyStore.

We might never understand how it feels to walk in their shoes, or have to experience the normalised disadvantages they have to endure on a daily basis, but the least we can do is to enjoy a lovely meal from their cafe, order their pastries for our next feast or purchase their INSANELY ADORABLE KITTY CAT cushion covers to give your living room a pop of purrfection.

And if you’re up for a challenge, why not take up a new language that you can use anywhere in the world.

You can check out RC Deaf Missions Malaysia here.

Please raise more awareness about this cafe by sharing the story with your friends or even sharing the article on your social media feed!
