Malaysian celebrity preacher, Firdaus Wong, recently shared how the President of the Malaysian Yoga Sports Association, Prof. Dr. Lingham Pillai, had reached out to him to share and spread an important matter.
It turns out that Prof. Dr. Lingham wanted to urge Muslims to stay away from yoga as it goes against the fatwa (an official ruling) from JAKIM.
Taking to his Instagram page, Firdaus Wong shared, “He urged to meet me as soon as possible. He said that it is important.”
Prof. Dr. Lingham then met Firdaus Wong at his office in Setapak, where he shared his concerns with the preacher over Muslims participating in yoga.
“As a Hindu, I know yoga originates from Hinduism. I, myself, will not promote it to Muslims. Any yoga teacher or centre should not promote it to Muslims,”
“Muslims should not participate in yoga. Even I, as a Hindu, know that yoga is from Hinduism and Muslims themselves should respect the fatwa from JAKIM that forbids Muslims to participate,” he told the preacher.
According to Prof. Dr. Lingham, he claims that certain yoga instructors have apparently promoted the practice to Muslims, with the belief that yoga can “help them to become better Muslims”.
Hence, he reached out to Firdaus Wong to assist in spreading the word about this.
Instead, Prof. Dr. Lingham encouraged Muslims to pray properly as the movements of Islamic prayers can apparently boost one’s health.
“I conducted research and studies on the movements of Islamic prayers, just tell Muslims to pray properly because, in the movements of Islamic prayers, there are health benefits,” Prof. Dr. Lingham added.
