When it comes to communicating with the elderly, netizens are often divided on what is an acceptable way to respond to the questions that are posed by nosy aunties and uncles.
From CNY to Raya to wedding receptions, there seems to be no escaping the endless barrage of nosy questions.
However, some Malaysians have decided to respond back to the aunties with a taste of their own medicine.
A TikTok video by Yousaf, recently went viral. In the video, Yousaf does a sarcastic point-of-view video on how he would respond to a random auntie’s questions at a wedding reception.
In the sarcastic video, Yousaf is seen to be sitting at a wedding reception when he gets asked by an auntie on when his turn is going to be to get married.
He then responds ‘rudely’ to quiet down the auntie.
Some Twitter users criticised him
Although the TikTok video was posted back in November 2021, the video recently went viral as it was circulating on social media platforms such as Twitter.
Some users went on to criticise Yousaf for being rude to the elderly.
“This kind of content is teaching his generation to be rude to people at wedding ceremonies,” commented a user.
“I don’t care if it’s just for TikTok, or the fact that I don’t know this guy’s character but what’s important is that I am seeing a human that has no respect whilst talking to the elderly,” said a user.
Others defended the TikToker
Meanwhile, some users were quick to defend the TikToker and his content. They also slammed those who criticised him for not understanding the context behind the video and the type of content that Yousaf posts about.
“Twitter is no longer nice because of things like this. Wherever the content is from, it should stay there and not get shared to other social media platforms,” commented a user.
“They don’t even know the whole context and they judge people.”
“Something that is casual is made to be something serious. Hahaha just relax,” said another user.
Another user said, “If it’s on Twitter it stays on Twitter. But how did this get shared from TikTok to Twitter to be scrutinised?”
“Yousaf is actually nice. He makes funny content which all of his followers understand that he is just joking.”
“This brother is actually nice, his content is based on making POVs of what dealing with someone who is arrogant looks like,” explained a user.
