Social media in the past week was abuzz with the news of an attempted kidnapping that took place in Johor.
It is said that on December 12, a Chinese national with a Singaporean PR was in Johor with his family when his 7-year-old son was taken by 3 men in a Proton Wira without a license plate.
BERNAMA reports that the 3 men are teens aged 15, 17 and 18 and they have been detained by PDRM in Pontian. They will be remanded for a total of 4 days as of 21 December.
The teens are accomplices to the main suspect, a 41-year-old who is believed to be a partner of the 40-year-old Singaporean PR. He has since been detained.
PDRM has said that the suspect had intended to seek RM300,000 as ransom from the victim.
According to Berita Harian, when the 40-year-old father saw that his child was being taken away on the day of the incident, he proceeded on a 3-km chase before finally crashing his car into the kidnappers’ car. This resulted in him sustaining serious injuries on his face, including the loss of a tooth.
After the crash, the kidnappers ran away, leaving his child in the car alone. The 7-year-old is uninjured.
We hope that the family will be seeking help to get through this traumatic event and that the perpetrators will face justice.
