You know how they say “once you become a parent, you will understand what unconditional love truly is”? Similarly, this saying applies to teachers as well.
The best teachers are the ones who care about their students. Not just about their education but their well-being too. Some view their students as their own children and would do anything to put a smile on their faces.
This Malaysian teacher, Muhammad Nazmi took to his Twitter page to share a heartwarming gesture he had done in order to put some smiles on his students’ faces.
I sold RM2k worth of action figures to buy farewell gifts utk pelajar Pedalaman saya sebelum pindah & turned out dorang xpernah dapat buku2 nota cantik comel mcm ni,, padahal saya & wife beli kat DIY je pun.. ??? look at the smile ? pic.twitter.com/32vohoRder

In his tweet, he shared how he decided to sell his collection of action figures (worth over RM2,000) just so that he can use the money to buy farewell gifts for his students before he moved schools.
He also wrote in his tweet saying that he was not aware that his students have never received cute notebooks before!
World of Buzz had the privilege of speaking to Nazmi who explained how it all happened.
He said he was a teacher at a rural school, SK Long Sukang, Sarawak. However, he was about to be transferred to another school.
“Due to the pandemic, us teachers weren’t able to see our students. Getting transferred during this time is truly sad,” he told World of Buzz.
He then decided to buy them farewell gifts but needed some money to do so as he wanted to make sure each and every student got a gift, which is why he finally settled with the idea of selling his action figure collection.
He posted on his Facebook, seeking buyers to purchase his action figures. He took pictures, gave an estimated price for each action figure and uploaded it on his page, thinking it might take a while to find a buyer. But he thought wrong.
“My post got the attention of YB Baru Bian, who happened to be a student in SK Long Sukang a long time ago. He reached out to me and decided to buy the action figures,” Nazmi said.
With the money he got from YB Baru Bian, he headed over to Mr DIY and purchased as many stationaries he could and packed it up. He then headed to the school which is located 4 hours away from the town.
“When delivering each of the gifts, I realised they have never owned these kind of stuff,” he said.
He even added on to say that some of his friends discouraged him to do this kind gesture. This is because it was his personal collection and was worth so much.
“But hey, what’s more important than seeing them smile? They’re Pendalaman pupils. Their teachers are the world to them,” he said. And we couldn’t agree more… just look at the smile on their faces!
According to Nazmi, these students live a rather challenging life compared to most of us and the gap between them and their urban counterparts is huge.
“So seeing them smile like that for one last time before I leave is meaningful and priceless to me,” he said.
Kudos to Cikgu Nazmi for the sweet gesture!
