In Malaysia, there are many animal lovers who will go above and beyond to rescue and care for stray animals in need.
But, one incident has left people divided over the way a kind Malaysian decided to rescue a cat stranded in the middle of the road.
Utusan TV took to their TikTok page to showcase dashboard camera footage of a Malaysian suddenly stopping her car on the most right lane (the fast lane) of a busy road in Kuala Lumpur to save a cat that was stranded there.
They wrote, “Just to reflect together, was this appropriate or not?”
In the video, another car could be seen swerving to avoid the cat rescuer’s vehicle as she suddenly put on her hazard lights and stopped her car on the most right lane.
The vehicle with the dashboard camera then had to slam on their breaks to prevent themselves from hitting her car, and started honking.
Soon after, the cat rescuer emerged from her driver’s seat and slowly attempted to coax the cat towards her as the vehicle with the dashboard camera reversed a little to change lanes and continue on their journey.
While many shared that the rescuer’s actions were dangerous as she should have stopped by the side of the road instead, others believe her decision to stop her car there and then to save the cat was appropriate and should be praised.
“It’s a superficial mindset to be willing to mortgage human life to save a cat, but in the comments section there are many who are supporting this.”
“That’s not the way to do it. Stop by the side of the road. Cross the road to rescue the cat. Not just stopping like that. Does she have a purchased license or what? If a lorry hits her, she’ll be crying.”
“Of course it’s appropriate. Cats are living creatures too. Same as humans. Thank you for helping to rescue the cat.”
“Very appropriate but she should act quickly as this is dangerous to road users.”
