@partinisarikinsari recently took to her TikTok to share an incident that happened during the Sukan Malaysia (SUKMA) silat match between Sarawak and Wilayah Persekutuan at a stadium in Miri.
They felt the points awarded to one of the teams were unfair
In the video, while Niny was recording the tournament, she unintentionally captured an audience member throwing a water bottle towards the ring in frustration over what they felt were unfair points awarded to one of the teams.
“Before the incident with the thrown water bottle, the scores were Blue Team (Wilayah): 68 and Red Team (Sarawak): 62.”
She then posted another video explaining the point allocation to each team, breaking down the process step-by-step.
“Clearly, the blue team scored 1st. 2 judges observed this and recorded the score simultaneously, awarding 2 points to the blue team. Then, the blue team fell. As a result, 3 points was awarded to the red team. Blue team had 68 + 2 = 70 and red team 62 + 3 = 65. That’s accurate right?”
“Supporters should come to support”
Niny later shared her thoughts, saying that after watching the match firsthand, she believes the points awarded were actually fair to both the red and blue teams.
After both teams received their points, one of the spectators expressed frustration by throwing a water bottle onto the ring, and another threw a drink that accidentally hit the technical team’s laptop.
“Supporters come to support, not to provoke and cause trouble. Because of this, we might not be able to watch the game in the hall.”
The match resumed without any spectators
According to Berita Harian, Chief of the Silat Technical Delegation, Kamarul Ariffin A Latib explained that for everyone’s safety, no spectators or teams are allowed to attend the silat competition until the final day which was on August 23rd (Friday).
“Only those with staff passes will be allowed, such as medical teams, media personnel, and they will be monitored by security.”
Netizens quickly flooded the comment section with their opinions and theories.
“It seems some Wilayah supporters are unhappy because their team was deemed to have fallen. Although the blue team (Wilayah) was attempting a pull and sweep move, the referee saw a clear fall from the red team (Sarawak). If there were any mistakes, they should have been addressed.”
“The referee was correct because the blue team kicked the red team’s body before falling. After that, the blue team fell. The red team got 3 points because the blue team was counted as having fallen, even though the sweep was delayed by 3-5 seconds.”
“There are other ways to protest, and this isn’t the way to do it. As a result, all supporters are barred from entering.”
“Looking from the beginning, from 20 points onwards, Wilayah’s points have been consistently increasing, if I’m not mistaken.”
