Most Malaysians have returned to work today (February 18) after a week of CNY but that does not mean Angpow money is not being “distributed” anymore. We still have about a week of CNY to go!

When it comes to Angpow, does the amount matter or is it all about sincerity? In a post by Xuan Play on Facebook, a Malaysian was blunt about the amount and if you’re among the people who give only RM2, the person has labelled you as stingy.

“What do you mean RM2?! I can’t even…”

The person unleashed her wrath in the post about the amount of Angpow money and told others who give only RM2 to respect the recipients because the low amount is just not relevant anymore.

“Even e-hailing drivers and garbage collector get at least RM5. What do you mean by giving me only RM2? I’m not even worth RM5?!”

She added that with RM2, she can’t even use the Angpow money to pay parking fare, and said that if she knew who was the giver, she would’ve returned the money because it was a waste.

In her post, she said that she expected to get criticism for her brutal honesty, and let’s just say, she got what she expected.

Many netizens pointed out that she should be grateful regardless of the amount, and that Angpow money is merely a sign of luck, not something to earn passive income.

“Angpow is merely a sign of luck, not for you to earn money. You can be happy if you get more, but you don’t have to be unhappy if you get less.”

“People like you should get T&G money pocket, you should’ve received only 1 sen, save others the time to wrap you an Angpow.”

“If you’re so unhappy, don’t take it.”

“It feels so happy to see you getting slammed.”

“An Angpow is a wish, and a wish is priceless.”

“Some people are struggling financially, and your understanding would be appreciated. Everyone wanted to give more, if possible but not everyone lives in the same situation.”

“Education at home is indeed important. Angpow used to be a sign of sincerity, as long as you’re healthy and safe, that’s all that matters.”

“You have an option – don’t take it.”
