Festive periods often bring about a bunch of heartwarming stories as Malaysians band together to help each other in any way possible.
Recently, a Malaysian took to Facebook to share how this holiday was made even more memorable after an unexpected encounter with an elderly lady ended up with him and his friends helping her get back to her family in time for Chinese New Year.
In his Facebook post, Syed Azmi said that he had come across the 65-year-old lady at the Kajang MRT station. “When we got to the station, the auntie was yelling for help at the MRT counter to ask if she could purchase a KTM ticket since the KTM counter was closed. She was wearing a hearing aid.”
“The staff at the counter said that he is unable to help as he knows nothing about the KTM. So I tried to help her buy a ticket at the KTM ticket machine but both machines were unresponsive. She then said that she wanted to cry because she didn’t know how to get back,” he explained.
“In the end, my friend offered to send her to KTM Bangi and when asked, she said that her sibling will pick her up. We called and asked for permission for us to send her and her sibling said it was okay,” he added.
Azmi said that although she was initially panicking and scared, she eventually calmed down when they entered the car. He said that she told them all about herself and never stopped saying expressing how thankful she was.
She even went beyond and gave them ang pao!
“Long story short, she said that she has just returned from Sg Choh after a reunion dinner with her retired friends. Tonight she was meant to go back to her sibling’s house,” he explained.
“She even jokingly asked for my car number plate, said that she wanted to buy lottery tomorrow and if she wins, she wants to treat us to a drink!”
“This is the good memory this year Chinese New Year for all three of us,” he said.
A heartwarming story
Malaysians praised him for giving the old lady a helping hand so that she can go home safely.
“This is what Malaysians are good at! We help each other in times of trouble.”
Another user commented, “Thank you to you and your friends for helping her”, and went on to offer to reimburse Azmi and his friends for their petrol and toll costs.
In an interview with WORLD OF BUZZ, Azmi expressed his gratitude to those who have wished him and his friends well following their good deeds.
He said that he never expected that his story would’ve gone viral and added that he just wanted to share his story as an example that Malaysians no matter what age or race should always help one another when needed.
