A Malaysian is claiming that the caretaker of the Datuk Gong temple in Genting Highlands tore an RM10 banknote in half to provide them with RM5 change for a packet of joss paper costing RM15.
Sharing their story anonymously in the 云顶大小事 Facebook group, the individual expressed their outrage after visiting the temple to offer incense, only to be charged RM15 for the joss paper.

“You’ve all seen the Datuk Gong temple in Genting Highlands, right? The uncle in charge is outrageous,” they wrote.
“When I went to offer incense, I took a packet of joss paper from him. When I opened it to burn, he told me I owed him RM15!”
The individual questioned the high price and asked why the money they had already placed in the donation box did not cover the cost. The caretaker reportedly responded that the joss paper belonged to him personally, rather than the temple.
Unusual change: Is half an RM10 note worth RM5?
The visitor ultimately handed over an RM20 note to pay for the RM15 packet and expected RM5 in change. However, what they received in return was one-half of an RM10 banknote.

“He said he didn’t have any change, then took a stack of RM50 and RM10 notes out of his pocket,” the user explained.
“Knowing that I definitely wanted my RM5 back, he took his own RM10 note and tore it in half right in front of me. He gave me one half and kept the other.”
The disgruntled visitor added that they believe the man is unfit to be the temple’s caretaker.
