A newly-wed couple are suffering through paying off a loan after they attempted to make their parents’ dream of having a luxurious wedding ceremony come true.
In a post shared by the Emosi Twitter page, the bride explained that they’ve been married for 6 months now and confessed that they feel tortured over having to work multiple jobs to settle an RM40,000 debt in the form of a loan.
“During these 6 months of marriage, I cried more than I was happy. It all started before the ceremony, my parents forced us to take a loan for the wedding. We both work normal jobs, my husband is a clerk and I, on the other hand, am a government contract worker,”
“I told my parents that we want to have a small ceremony and invite not more than 100 people. My parents didn’t agree because they said that there are many relatives and friends they have to invite. If not, they would be offended,” she said.
Her parents’ words made her feel like they were not confident that her husband could take care of her, especially if they had a small wedding. The husband then ended up having a chat with her parents and asked them how many people they were looking at inviting.
“After calculating, there were about 1,000 people and they wanted to have the wedding at a hotel. My parents suggested we take a personal loan of RM40,000 if we want to get married,”
“Long story short, my husband took on the loan.”
Soon after, they held the wedding ceremony that her parents wanted and their friends praised them for the grandness of it all. But, then came the stress.
“Now we are struggling to pay off the loan. After my husband comes home from work, he immediately does food delivery. I’m doing online dropshipping but that’s the thing, I feel saddened that sometimes there are no sales,”
“My husband used to be joyful and now he just sleeps a lot when he gets home. He says he’s tired from working nonstop. He really regrets taking the loan. If we didn’t our lives would be peaceful, he could come home from the office and rest with me,” she ended.
This is truly a lesson in not letting others pressure you into spending above what you can afford. We genuinely hope that the newly-wed duo comes across a lucky break to help them pay off the debt.
