There are so many crooks and bad people out there these days that we really have to be careful! Criminals are getting more creative nowadays and preying on unsuspecting residents by pretending to be a maintenance person, electrician, and plumber to gain entry into your home. Don’t fall for their lies!
Recently, a Malaysian man shared an experience on Facebook where his mother unwittingly opened the door to her house in Klang for a guy who pretended to be an electrician. Apparently, the ‘electrician’ told his mother that her son had asked him to go over for repair works and she did not suspect that anything was amiss.
“He told my mother that I had requested him to go to the house to repair some of the wirings while giving her something that looked like a power bank so my mother let him in. As he was walking in, he asked my mother for a screwdriver so she went to look for one,” he wrote. What kind of electrician doesn’t have a complete toolbox?
“When he saw my mother looking for a screwdriver, he quickly took the opportunity to enter the master bedroom. My mother found the screwdriver and shouted for him but he responded by asking her to turn off the power circuit.”
The netizen’s mother was surprised by this as she did not know which was the circuit breaker but the ‘electrician’ said that she could “simply turn off any of the fuses”. What kind of answer is that? Feeling suspicious, his mother decided to call her son and ask him about the ‘electrician’.
The netizen said, “Maybe my mother spoke rather loudly on the phone and spooked the guy which caused him to drop the screwdriver on the floor. I told my mother to ask him to leave quickly and he must have been scared because he ran out of the house.”
The guy said he reached home not long after that to check on his mother and luckily, she was unharmed. They also checked the house and there doesn’t seem to be any losses as well but he decided to lodge a police report. In his post, he reminded netizens to warn their parents or anyone at home not to simply open the door for any stranger to enter, especially if they do not show any valid credentials.
Remember to be alert and don’t simply open your door to strangers! Stranger danger!
